Red Helmet
sketchfab
In the 1960s, a distinctive red plastic mine helmet was manufactured and utilized at the Oranje-Nassau Mijnen in Heerlen. The mining company had its own color system for the helmets to specify the roles of their employees. Due to the loud conditions inside the mines with drilling, explosions, and machinery noises, a colored helmet allowed workers' roles to be communicated effectively without relying on verbal communication in a noisy environment. Different colors represented distinct roles within the company: Yellow indicated coal miner, red designated technician, blue denoted electrician, and white identified supervisor. The location of this unique piece is at the Nederlands Mijnmuseum in Heerlen, Limburg. It was created by Yuen Fei, Li.
