The bright-red dish - a vessel without a foot, its form fully intact archaeologically. The vessel sits atop a high-shaped foot, where its spherical body meets a sharp transition to a vertical rim. A barbotin technique covers the outer surface of the body. The diameter of the rim measures 19.4 sm. This fine ware designation is used by archaeologists for pottery meant for serving food and drink at table. Typically, ancient masters manufactured clay pottery imitating metal vessels that were much more expensive and less accessible to ordinary people. Additionally, this type of clay pottery featured a red-gloss slip with metallic sheen. Bowls of this type were widespread in the 1st century AD across both Western and Eastern regions of the Roman Empire. Originating from rural land plot No. 337 on the Chersonesos Tauric chora, the dish was excavated by archaeologist L.A. Kovalevskaya.
