Here is a very special but complete project: This housing contains HR LEDs with random flashing designed to keep nocturnal predators away from backyard animals like chickens, rabbits, and more. The randomness of the flashing can be adjusted in the widely commented program. The idea is that the predator won't get used to a regular pattern, and it also keeps thieves on their toes with this erratic flashing. The system automatically starts in the evening and stops at sunrise. I've included the wiring diagram as well as the text file (.txt) for the ARDUINO programming. The LDR sensor doesn't have a case, but is connected to 2 wires with heat-shrinkable sheaths that allow it to "see" the day. The Arduino board isn't housed in a box - you can find plenty of options on the CULTS website. The power supply provides a steady 5V for both the ARDUINO and the HR LEDs. Please note: I don't recommend using the 5V from the ARDUINO to power the HR LEDs, especially if you're using multiple Red Eyes boxes. Instead, use the Arduino's small 7.5 to 9V power supply. A small drop of glue will secure the LEDS in place, and their orientation allows them to be seen from three different angles per box. Keep in mind that this solution isn't perfect - but I still have my happy chickens!
