The Red-Billed Brushturkey (Talegalla cuvieri) goes by several names, including the red-billed talegalla and Cuvier's brushturkey. This large bird can grow up to 57 cm in length, featuring a distinctive black plumage and striking bare yellow facial skin. Its reddish-orange bill is complemented by bright yellow iris and vibrant orange feet. Characterized by its thick, black feathers resembling bristles on the head, this megapode displays a remarkable similarity between the sexes. Native to Indonesia, the Red-Billed Brushturkey calls the lowland forests of Vogelkop Peninsula, western Snow Mountains, and Misool Island in West Papua home. When building its nest mound, it uses sticks and leaves as primary materials. The scientific name "Talegalla cuvieri" honors French zoologist Frédéric Cuvier, recognizing his significant contributions to the field. Currently evaluated as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the red-billed brushturkey's status remains secure.
