The Red Baron Hand Launched Glider is a hybrid model that seamlessly combines the lightweight properties of balsa wood with the structural integrity of PLA. Weighing in at just 11 grams, this miniature marvel features Mr. Schulz's iconic character Snoopy expertly navigating his flying doghouse, designed for effortless indoor flights and calm outdoor adventures. By cleverly integrating a 3D printed fuselage structure with precision-cut balsa wood flight surfaces, the design effectively minimizes weight while maximizing glide performance. With only three 3D printed components and three templates needed to create the four delicate balsa wood surfaces, assembly and printing are remarkably straightforward processes. To streamline production and ensure accuracy, I employed 3D printed templates for cutting out the flight surfaces, making it easy to replicate this design multiple times. As always, I must confess that I probably left a file or two behind, so please don't hesitate to ask any questions – I'm more than happy to clarify any mistakes. This project was brought to life using Autodesk Fusion 360 for design and Cura 3.4.1 for slicing, with both an Ultimaker 2+ Extended and an Ultimaker 3 Extended printer used to produce the final PLA model.
