The Fokker Dr.I was a German fighter jet from the First World War built by Anthony Fokker's company. When it burst onto the western front in the late 1910s, piloted by legendary aces, the small number of Dr.I's reached an impressive record of combat victories. His reputation is closely linked to that of "Red Baron" Rittmeister Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen, a German aristocrat who was the most successful ace of the First World War and perhaps the most famous fighter pilot of all time. The Baron died from a single bullet that penetrated his body on a skewed trajectory and pierced his heart. He was buried with military honours by his enemies, the British pilots gave him a solemn funeral. "Here lies a brave, noble adversary and a true man of honour. May he rest in peace."
