Red Alert Tesla Coil Plasma Globe
thingiverse
I fell head over heels for Chrisn889's Tesla Coil model and couldn't resist trying out some modifications with a plasma globe. All I did was swap out the black_frame_2of2 part for a new one that includes an extension collar to hold a plasma globe in place. There's a bit of wiggle room, so just use some blue tack or something similar to pad it and get the glass fitting snugly. The plasma globe I used is super cheap - a 3" USB-powered model that's widely available on eBay and other sites. I removed the case and then extended the HV wire with 20kV insulated cable so the electronics could sit outside of the model. Be aware, though, that this will affect the tuning of the circuit - the longer you make the lead, the less the globe will light up without touching it. Obviously, don't even think about trying any of this if you're not confident around high-voltage power sources.
