Juan de Ávalos y García-Taborda was a renowned Spanish sculptor born in 1911 and passing away in 2006 at Clínica Virgen del Mar, Madrid. This talented artist started learning very early on in life. At just six years old, he began his studies under the guidance of D. Juan Carmona, pastor of the Church of Santa Eulalia, who not only taught him but also three other children to draw with skill and precision. Shortly after, de Ávalos's family relocated to Madrid due to his father's declining eyesight. Once in Madrid, de Ávalos's father proudly showcased his son's artwork to the celebrated painter Manuel Benedito. To everyone's astonishment, the master artist was taken aback by the exceptional quality of work produced by this young child. He couldn't believe that a child could draw so skillfully until he witnessed de Ávalos at work firsthand. Convinced of the boy's remarkable talent, Manuel Benedito advised de Ávalos's father to enroll his son in the prestigious Casón del Buen Retiro to further hone his skills and nurture his artistic potential.
