This is a remix for the #RemixChallenge of the Hand Cranked Vinyl Player by Oana. I had previously come across this myself, but after seeing it on the Remix Challenge, I knew I had to drop everything and get to work improving it! As someone who enjoys printing mechanical clocks, I wanted to take a closer look at all aspects of it and make design changes for both construction and functionality. On the design front, I knew I wanted to simplify and attach the tonearm to the record player, saving plastic and improving portability. To save even more plastic and printing time, I removed the ghosts from the frame (6.5 hours vs 9.2 hours print time!) while modifying it so that it would also print well without supports near the top of the frame. Initially, I investigated and printed a Rotary Governor instead of a penny weight to regulate speed, but the shaft didn't spin quickly enough for it to be feasible. I also tried printing the GRAMophone horn in hopes of using that instead of rolled card stock, but the volume and tone were not an improvement. To improve functionality on the record player, I added a slightly raised circle and 2mm hole to the no-ghosts-support so that a short piece of 1.75mm filament could be added instead of trying to print such a small object. The addition of penny weights for the shaft helps it turn more smoothly, and the extra weight provides momentum to stabilize speed while playing a record. The red Solo turned out to be a good resonator and was easy to make by simply poking a needle into the bottom and fitting it in the larger tonearm I made. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with the remix, and I hope you enjoy the red and white printing in honor of the red Solo cup and the holidays! UPDATE: Sadly, the inventor of the red Solo cup just passed away yesterday. Pour one out for Robert Leo Hulseman! Print Settings: Printer: FLSUN Delta Resolution: .3 Infill: 20% Notes: I chose a 4mm brim on just about everything to make sure it wouldn't warp or pop off the print bed as I printed with PLA and no heated bed. How I Designed This: TinkerCAD I used TinkerCAD to import existing STL files to modify and then export. Assembly Video Assembly Tips and Tricks Add drops of superglue where appropriate. I didn't do it for the assembly video, but it's needed here and there. You may notice a few black dots on some parts. I've used a few (optional) felt dots to make the turntable quieter and to dampen the frame vibration. A Christmas Carol Record Test #RemixChallenge Remix Info
