Reconstruction of an Iron Age hut (Fidene, Rome)

This reconstruction showcases an Iron Age dwelling that was unearthed during multiple excavations around 1990. The digs uncovered the remnants of a well-preserved hut structure measuring 30 square meters, which has been reconstructed after excavation. The walls are crafted using the terra-pisé technique (pressed earth). Several posts outside the perimeter of the wall provide stability to the hut's walls. It appears that the hut was destroyed by a sudden inferno. A fascinating discovery is the skeletal remains of a domestic cat trapped in a corner of the hut. This model is based on a series of photographs taken during winter 2013, with additional shots captured in 2015. Unfortunately, the site's poor maintenance has led to inadequate coverage of the roof due to nearby trees obstructing the view.
