Reclining Buddha

Throughout history, military conflicts have consistently resulted in the plundering of areas under siege. A prime example is a stunning marble reclining Buddha, seized by the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry from a temple in Burma during World War II. The exact location of the temple remains unknown, but the statue was undoubtedly an extraordinary find that would have been highly prized upon its return to Britain. Today, it takes pride of place in a museum alongside another Buddha taken at the same time, standing out due to its imposing size and striking golden hue.
