Chimú is a pre-Inca culture that thrived on Peru's northern coast following the decline of the Wari Empire between the years 1000 and 1200. They claimed territories previously inhabited by the Moche and Lambayeque, eventually expanding their domains to a vast coastal strip stretching over 800 km along northern Peru from Tumbes to Huarmey Valley.
