REBBL Blood Bowl Token
thingiverse
I'm heading to Austria for the Blood Bowl World Cup in just a few weeks, representing the Reddit Eternal Blood Bowl League with pride. A time-honored tradition at major tournaments is to present each opponent with a thoughtful gift, often a set of dice from your home league. As an online league, we don't have any custom-made dice yet, so I decided to design and print a token featuring our league logo. My initial plan was to create tokens measuring 15mm across, which is roughly the right size for a ball token. The v1.1 file represents my first attempt at this design, and while it came out okay on my Sparkmaker FHD printer, the walls of the logo were so thin and fragile that most broke during post-processing or simply from handling. To address this issue, I created the v2.1 file, which reverses the logo by having it extrude from the top rather than being cut out. This solved the fragility problem in the lettering, but now the ball spikes are fragile instead; unfortunately, the thinness of the logo walls still caused a problem, making the letters hard to see when printing this design. The v1.13 file is actually the one I'm using for the World Cup; it's based on the v1.1 design but with some modifications to make it print more reliably and be less fragile. I've increased the size by 50% along both X and Y axes, making it now 22.5mm across – slightly larger than ideal for a ball token but still usable as one or as a turn counter or re-roll token. I've also made the logo cut into the token shallower and manually adjusted the mesh in Meshmixer to thicken some of the logo walls; while this wasn't perfect, at the scale I'm printing, it's not noticeable. If you were to print this larger, though, I'd recommend using the v1.1 or v2.1 file instead – they have cleaner versions of the logo without my amateur adjustments. I'm uploading all three files in case anyone wants to experiment with them or thinks their printer and material might yield better results than mine did at the original 15mm size. Different exposure settings, tougher resin, a higher-resolution screen, or even a laser-based SLA printer could lead to success printing this design at its intended size.
