Rear active cooling duct with 40mm fan and LED lighting (Duplicator 4 dual)
thingiverse
This is another fan duct for the duplicator 4 dual designed to provide active cooling and LED lighting to nozzle working areas. The 40mm x 40mm x 10mm fan is positioned vertically behind the stepper motors, creating a clear view of the nozzles by not obstructing them with its placement. This entire unit lights up with two installed LEDs, printed using clear PETG filament. Most of these types of cooling ducts require active cooling to function, which can be a challenge since you don't have an active cooling duct yet... This model features fine bridge support structures that are already included in the design. These structures offer more effective overhang support than most slicing algorithms and can be removed once the print is complete. Key Features: • Clear view of nozzles - fan duct positioned at back • Nozzle working areas illuminated by LEDs • Less obstructions within the fan ducts result in increased airflow • Air concentrated on nozzle tip, not heating element • Nozzle heating elements are not obstructed, reducing heat buildup and potential carriage melting • Clears heat bed tray at rear of printer (does so in my setup) • Easier to print than similar models, especially with support structures included (use downloaded file with built-in support, don't use splicer's default support settings) Instructions: There are four files available for download. One set has LED holes and one does not, along with options for including or excluding overhang support structures. I suggest printing the version with included support (Support_included_duct*.stl), which includes fine pillars that can be removed easily using a stanley blade and small ruler once the print is complete. Settings I used to print it out: • Layer height: 0.2mm • No Support (support structures built into design) • Three shells with 100% infill • Feedrate: Not faster than 50mm/second • Filament: Clear PETG or ABS with high melting point Fastening Clips: You'll need to print two fastening clips, which can be downloaded from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:537918 called ActiveDuctV2.0_Clip.stl. These clips use two 3mm bolts and nuts to secure the fan to the carriage. Fan: The 40mm fan is secured with two 3mm self-tapping screws, but some fans may require more care in installation as they have a loose fit in the duct. Be mindful not to damage the back wall when installing the fan. LEDs: In my prints, I used red LEDs, but white 5mm LEDs (20,000mcd, 3.2V, 20deg) are actually recommended. The LEDs should be connected in series and linked up to the 24V PSU via a 1K5 1/4Watt resistor, driving each LED at approximately 12mA.
