Real SD Card

My SD Card Disintegrated! Pieces started falling off: the lock switch, then the corners, then the cover! Then I couldn't use it anymore. Apparently they can wear out :) Since I had data on it I still wanted (and I'm a cheap SOB), I decided to design/print a new card for the memory chip inside (which is laughingly small compared to the card itself) First design. First print. And it worked! It fit in the reader and I got all my data off it. No, I did not replicate the lock switch. It's too small and I think its stupid anyway. The result may be a little tight in your card reader, but if you're in a bind from an exploded SD card and you need that data, then this will give you a good shot at reading it off. I don't believe this is sturdy enough for repetitive use. Disclaimer: This worked for me, but may not work for you. Depending on your printer type, quality and tuning, you may not get a usable print. This is a difficult print. I am not responsible for any damage to your SD Card reader, computer, or anything else as a result of trying to print or use this object. Last Note: I've included the original Sketchup file so can modify it. The inside of your SD card may be different than mine based on capacity, age and manufacturer. I just don't know. Print Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: JG Aurora A3 Prusa I3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1mm Infill: 100% Notes: It only takes about 3m of filament, so infill @100% only adds about .1m at the most. I highly recommend printing this on a very fine setting. The top is only 0.4mm thick and the fingers for the contacts are only 0.5mm wide and 0.6mm tall. This printed with my 0.4mm nozzle and may print with a 0.5mm nozzle but not anything larger. I also recommend slowing your printer down by half so you get the most accurate print. Post-Printing Might need some cleanup The little overhangs on the sides might need a little filing to sharping the corners. Super-glue the top on and put it under a book or two to keep it flat and as thin as possible while the glue dries. Might not want to put glue on the chip so you can break it out easily if this doesn't work. And it may be a little tight in your card reader. Don't force it in! You may not get it back out or damage your SD Card Reader. Not recommended for repetitive use.
