Real rippled icicle 120725.489
thingiverse
A real icicle takes shape in a 3D scan. Grown inside a laboratory as part of an in-depth study on icicle formations, every detail was carefully recorded and made available online for anyone to access through The Icicle Atlas - a vast, open source database of data from this groundbreaking research project. The visible ripples found naturally on outdoor icicles were artificially induced by adding a tiny amount of salt into the water. This small manipulation had a significant effect on the resulting icicle's appearance, making it look just like one grown in harsh winter conditions outside. This 3D scan is the culmination of Icicle Atlas Run 120725. The data used to create this file was carefully gathered from image 489 and seven subsequent images that captured its gradual growth process over time. If you want to explore more 3D files like this one but in earlier stages of icicle formation, head over to The Icicle Atlas for a wealth of additional STL files. The Data Used All data used in this file is sourced from the research project known as The Icicle Atlas.
