Oregon State University is spearheading a revolutionary initiative to craft the next generation of ocean-going research vessels for the National Science Foundation. These cutting-edge Regional Class Research Vessels, dubbed RCRVs, are poised to revolutionize coastal science by delivering unprecedented capabilities and modern technologies. The RCRVs' eco-friendly designs, advanced acoustic quieting systems, robust sensor arrays, and specialized equipment for launching and retrieving scientific gear will significantly enhance the nation's marine research capacity. The first vessel is slated to set sail in 2020 and will be operated by OSU on the West Coast as part of the University-Oceanographic Laboratory System, providing scientists and educators with unparalleled access to the marine environment.
