RC Tugboat "TinyBoy"
thingiverse
I'm currently working on a mini tugboat for personal enjoyment. I drew inspiration from PeterSripol's Utility Tug Boat and decided to build my own, scaled down version since I have limited experience in this area. As it turns out, my creation came out a bit short and chubby, so I've nicknamed it the "TinyBoy". Right now, I'm printing the hull sections and will keep you updated on the progress. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsCBt2BKmMQ **Dimensions:** Length: 500mm Width: 165mm Height: 202mm All parts are within a 200mmx200mmx200mm print volume. **Parts Required:** * 3mm diameter shaft, length:150mm x 2 * 8mm diameter shaft sleeve, length: 100mm x 2 * A2212 brushless motor x 2 * 32mm diameter 3 blade prop x 2 * 3.17mm to 3mm shaft connector x 2 And additional parts are needed for RC systems, ESCs, batteries, transmitters, receivers, etc. **Update:** *2020-03-01:* Sections one, two and three have been printed and glued together. An improved version is also being designed, with the same hull shape as the current model but supporting prop sizes up to 50mm in diameter. I've made some modifications to the motor mount for easier installation. *2020-03-02:* All hull sections are now glued and have undergone a simple leak test. *2020-03-03:* Basic electronics are ready, with a water test pending. *2020-03-07:* The first field test took place. The hull requires 1~1.2kg of weight to reach the waterline. *2020-03-09:* Deck sections have been printed and glued together. It's getting a bit messy! *2020-03-13:* All major parts are now printed, and I'm doing a quick assembly before putting "TinyBoy" in the water for its maiden voyage. *2020-03-14:* The first trial is complete, with everything working as expected except for some minor issues with water ingress. At this point, I consider the project finished, with only additional equipment like FPV and telemetry radio left to add. To be honest, there were many mistakes throughout the design and building process, but it was a fun ride nonetheless! *2020-08-13:* A decoration part called BumperTrim has been added to the front deck.
