RC Truck Skis
thingiverse
This is a custom designed ski set tailored specifically for a 1/10 scale RC truck. The design deviates from standard versions by integrating directly with the steering hub instead of attaching via bolts, thereby minimizing the risk of the ski rolling over and transferring the strain to the A-arms. To successfully build this setup, you will need: 4 x (5x10x4 mm bearings) - Easily sourced on Amazon 2 x 5mm threaded rods - Visit your local hardware store, such as Ace Hardware 4 x Locking nuts designed for the threaded rods 2 x 3D printed files labeled "Ski" 1 x Standard print of "Ski_Hub" 1 x Mirrored print of "Ski_Hub" 1 x Standard print of "Ski_Riser" 1 x Mirrored print of "Ski_Riser" You will also require your preferred adhesive for plastic. I employed two-part epoxy for a strong bond. To construct this setup, first, print all necessary components and gather the additional supplies. Next, drill a small pilot hole through each part labeled Ski_Hub. This hole serves as the locating point for the screw securing the steering hub to the truck. Then, bond one standard Ski_Hub to a standard Ski_Riser, as illustrated in the accompanying pictures. Subsequently, press a bearing into the bottom of each ski and also into either side of the Ski_Riser. Cut your threaded rod to the correct length and attach lock nuts on both sides of the ski, securing them just enough not to fall off but loose enough for smooth rotation. Repeat this process for the other side. To install the skis on a truck, remove the front wheels and axles. Next, remove the steering hub (similar in appearance to the part labeled Ski_Hub). Insert the new ski assembly in place of the steering hub and reattach the screws. Finally, add tracks or paddle tires to the rear of the truck and hit the snow! If you encounter any issues with the skis, kindly inform me. I am always eager to learn and improve my designs. Thank you for giving them a try and have fun!
