RC Podracer thingy
thingiverse
This is probably a really bad idea, but who knows? It may be disastrous to even imagine. I'll post videos of how badly this goes when I'm finished with it. I need to design the pod mount right away. I decided to switch to 70mm x 24mm luggage wheels from Amazon that use 6mm hardware instead of the skateboard wheels I have, and it's cheaper to use them because they use M6 hardware instead of M8. Some M8 allthread or bolts are more expensive than suitcase wheels, and they come with M6 Chicago screws and washers. The rear wheel mount will be a little more complex since I want to make it steerable. I'm setting up the radio with differential thrust, but I also want to see if I can steer it too with a servo, so it will steer while gliding. I decided against designing my own pod, and instead found a pre-made toy to use in its place - Han Solo's Speeder from the Solo movie. It costs $17 on Amazon, which is cheaper than the time I would have spent on designing something myself. Plus, I like the design. I updated the nacelle center parts to give a little flexibility in mount location so you can center your props more easily. These are sized for 5-inch quadcopter props with about 1mm of clearance. I'm using 1000KV 2212 brushless motors and 30A ESCs, and I'll be powering it from a 3S battery to start with - I have a big 5000mAh one that will help weigh down the back of this monster so it (hopefully) doesn't fly away.
