RC Plane (Infinite Wing)
thingiverse
/!\ This is a work in progress! Meaning I haven't flown this aircraft yet. But I'm happy with the printed parts. The main ideas were: - Good looking aircraft - Easily printable and flexible enough to accept both PLA and LW-PLA (see print settings for more details) - Using very common and cheap RC stuff - Glider version ready - Rigid enough with removable wings for transportation - Flexible design that makes the CG easily movable (pusher version) - Lightweight overall and seeking for good performances I had my heart set on the infinite wing design for its theoretically good performance and most importantly for the cool looking it provides together with its originality. Infinite wings are supposedly "induced drag free" since the vortex out of the wing tips are removed. This is of course in theory, but worth the design anyway. I also chose a performant and yet versatile aerofoil: the Selig S3021, known for its good performance in highspeed and in slope soaring. With the pusher configuration and the way I cut the parts, you can easily remove motor/battery and still match the aircraft balance with the glider version. Also, in case of nose heavy configuration, move the motor aft or extend the motor mount .stl part. Conversely, in case of tail-heavy configuration, extend the front part of the fuselage and the canopy on the Z axis using your slicer to make them longer. The canopy is purposively resting on its Z axis so you don't have to re-orientate the part before reshaping the part. Transition between the front part and the rest of the fuselage should stay smooth as they are splitted at the biggest projected frontal area. - Wingspan: 87cm - Lenght: 53cm - AUW: 470gr glider version - 750gr motorized version - Wing area (excl. Winglets): 19 dm² To build this aircraft you will need: - x1 Ø8 x 800mm carbon rod - x2 Ø6 x 800mm carbon rod - x8 M3 nuts - x8 M3x9mm screw RC equipment: - Any 2210 ~2000kv brushless motor (the motor should match with the classic 9/12mm mount) with 7x5 propeller - 2x 9g/12g servo. Matches with the HXT900 etc... - 3s/2000mAh battery - 30A ESC The nose has two other options: streamlined nose for glider version, and FPV version to fit with a standard micro FPV camera (TX02, TX04, etc...) Happy printing!
