RC Lipo Shorty Battery Adapter
thingiverse
I recently purchased a ready-to-run (RTR) radio control (RC) car and a compact lithium-polymer (lipo) battery that fits perfectly inside it. However, the mounting holes on my RC car's battery holder were designed specifically for standard-sized batteries, so I needed to modify them to accommodate the shorter lipo battery. Unfortunately, the Electronic Speed Controller (ESC), which is responsible for controlling the speed and direction of the car, was blocking one of the mounting holes. To avoid relocating most of the RC car's electronics, which would have been a time-consuming process, I decided to design an adapter that would pad out the lipo battery to standard length, thereby providing a secure fit in the car's battery holder. This way, even if your RC car's battery holder is only designed for standard-sized batteries, this adapter will ensure a snug and secure hold on the shorter lipo battery. As an added bonus, I have included the OpenSCAD file used to design the adapter, which you can easily modify or customize according to your specific needs. If you're looking for inspiration or want to create your own custom adapter, feel free to use this file as a starting point. A photograph of the adapter in action shows it mounted inside my MST RMX 2.0 RC drift car. To print the adapter, I used a 10% infill and didn't require any supports, making it a quick and easy process.
