RC Helicopter Training Gear
thingiverse
I always get butterflies when taking a new model out for its first flight. I built an Align Trex 470LM helicopter and installed a CC3D Atom to use as the FBL controller/gyro, having never tried this combo before. The CC3D is not the first choice for most heli pilots; it requires more setup work than a Beastx, Ikon, K/V-bar, ZYX, or other options. Therefore, I decided it might be prudent to put training gear on it, as the Align Trex 470LM can be an angry Tasmanian Devil. If it tips on takeoff or landing before I can trim the PID's, expo's, or tail settings, I'll be pretty bummed. So, I grabbed a few 1/4" dowels and went into Fusion 360 to draw up the necessary parts. You will need four 1/4" x 18" dowels, four zip ties, four ball ends, and one coupler. It should add some margin of safety to 300-500 size helis until you get the feel for it. Be sure to place it as close to centered under the main shaft as possible for balance. If you need a set with different sized holes (like for 5mm, 6mm, or 8mm carbon fiber rods), just ask. It's quick and easy.
