Rc Car Stand
thingiverse
After 20 years of sitting idle in storage, I finally couldn't put off the project any longer and began rebuilding my stripped-down T-Maxx. As I cleaned parts, I thought to myself, "I wish I had a pit stand," if only there was a wonder tool that could create one for me on demand. My beautiful Davinci 3D printer is still amazing me after a year of near-constant printing; it's truly one of the greatest tools ever invented. Just think about it: come up with an idea, spend a couple hours in CAD, and then wait for what feels like an eternity for it to print - voila! Your idea becomes reality, magic happens. Anyway, I designed this work stand to be versatile, with plenty of space to store parts and screws. To make it easier to access those hard-to-reach areas, I positioned the pedestal towards the back. A hollowed-out area in the bottom allows for added weight to create a more stable base - I plan to fill mine with lead shot once I find a cheap source. My primary focus was creating a T-Maxx mount, but I included a generic upper part that can be adapted to other cars as well. To assemble the T-Maxx upper, you'll need 2 M3 x 25 screws and nuts for the braces; the base requires 6 M3 x 15mm self-tapping screws. To prevent the stand from sliding around, I plan on adding a rubber mat to the bottom - I've already found a great source on Amazon. I was initially going to add some of that mat to the upper parts as well, but then I decided to try printing those pieces with flexible filament instead. Since I'm new to printing flex, I purchased a sample of Cheetah and will be experimenting with it. The files included cover the sections where the car will sit and provide support while printing - I've had trouble getting good layer adhesion after using supports in the past. To print these parts, I used 3 perimeters and 4 top/bottom layers at 30% infill. Keep in mind that my prints may not be perfect - the base came out a bit rough. I hope you enjoy this project and find it useful! Thanks for checking it out. Edit: I've added a couple of riser rings to raise vehicles with extra-large tires - they're 25mm and 12mm, respectively. I'm still working on mastering Cheetah filament; I'm having trouble getting clean top layers without strings or blobs. Edit (3/29/2020): I've added an updated version of the generic stand with a wider middle trough for my Losi XXT.
