RC Car Modular Timing Bridge support system for RCP Track
thingiverse
Hi all, I'm excited to share a timing bridge system that my friend and I co-developed for some local shops and their home track. We designed these side supports with flexibility in mind, allowing you to use either C-Channel aluminum or PVC pipe as the center beam. The C-Channel can be ordered from Amazon in whatever length you need to match the width of your track. You can check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003U6IB52/?coliid=INEI19HA2ZO9P&colid=2GVOPSCAJCBQV&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1 If you prefer a PVC bridge, which is a more affordable option, we found that 1 1/2" pipe fits best. However, I'm still unsure about the sensor placement - should it be under the PVC or cut out to allow for internal mounting? This would help block the field of view from other lanes. The Upper Block features a square hole designed specifically for mounting a network coupler like this one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076C1F38Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 To assemble everything, you'll want to achieve a tight tension fit. If needed, use M2x6 self-tapping screws (standard mini-z size) to secure the parts together. For added stability, consider using a larger screw or bolt and nut through the larger hole from underneath to hold the upper box to the cross brace in place. While there's certainly room for tweaks and improvements, time is often a major constraint for me, so I've focused on getting this design functional. To print with optimal results, we recommend using a 0.8mm nozzle if possible, as it will provide extra strength to your prints. Our settings include: * Layer height: 0.3mm * Two outer walls for added stability * 30% infill for balance between weight and structural integrity You shouldn't need any supports during printing. To print the entire set, you'll need to print the following parts: * 2 left bases (30cm or 50cm) * 2 right bases (30cm or 50cm) * The legs depend on how high off the track surface you want the cross beam to be - eight legs will bring it close to the recommended height of the iLaps system. * 2 upper boxes * 2 upper cross braces
