RC boat water jet propulsion - complete open source
thingiverse
I'm working on creating a brand new water jet boat propulsion system for RC models. The current version I'm using is called "v12". It's fully open source, but only for non-commercial use - if you need another license, just let me know. This design is specifically made for approximately 1m model boats. I printed the main parts from PLA except for the impeller, which was printed from PETG. The system requires 5x5mm M3 brass inserts, and the ones included in "jetRudler_v12.stl" were drilled with a 3.2 drill. You can find the OpenSCAD sources for v12 here: https://gitlab.com/jdobry/waterJet/tree/v12 Note that the impeller lead isn't optimal for jet efficiency - it's too big, but it prints well. I haven't tested other lead/pitch values, so this is good enough for my fun little boat. The mainPart and motorHolder need to be glued together, but only when the shaft is already mounted to the motor. It's essential to have the motor and shaft perfectly concentric.
