RC Blocked Diff

UPDATE : for increased durability, consider using this diff instead - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1734496 (lower tooth count results in larger teeth, making them harder to break). UPDATE : the pinion housing has been lengthened to provide enhanced effort resistance. This customizable blocked differential is designed specifically for RC cars and is based on the library found at - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3575/#files . The STL files included are designed with a 20 mm diameter gear in mind, but you can easily adjust this by modifying the "SCALE_FACTOR" variable in the OpenScad source code to achieve a larger or smaller diff. To see how it works, check out this test video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fl0kDC48Tu8 . This design utilizes 4 bearings with dimensions D8 x d5 x 2.5 mm. You can customize the bearing size by adjusting the "BEARING_OUTER_DIAMETER" and "BEARING_WIDTH" variables. The gear and pinion are secured to the axle using 4 M3 screws, with holes measuring 2.4 mm to accommodate direct screw insertion. You can modify this setup (see "GEAR_FIX_SCREW_DIAMETER") if needed. This design features 5 mm precision rods, which you can also adjust by modifying the "GEAR_BORE_DIAMETER" variable. To generate an open axle with visible gears, use "axle_top(open_top=1);" and to create a closed axle for dust prevention, use "axle_top(open_top=0);".
