RC Airplane Replaceable Wingtip Skid

RC Airplane Replaceable Wingtip Skid

thingiverse

A straightforward, replaceable wingtip skid for RC airplanes or gliders. I installed these on my new 2-meter sailplane with a large main wheel and small tail wheel, enabling me to land safely on our club's paved runway without damaging the underside of my wingtips. My sailplane's thin wingtip made it necessary not to carve out a recessed area in the wing, so I simply glued them directly onto its surface. The two mounting screws for the actual skid itself penetrate into the foam, providing extra hold and keeping them securely in place. If your wing is thicker, you may want to create a slight recess to improve retention. So far, no issues have arisen, but we'll see how they perform this summer. I printed these skids in PLA, which will likely wear down quickly, so I've also produced multiple spares to test their durability. I anticipate that some planes might require a taller skid, and if there's sufficient interest, I'll upload additional sizes for your use.
