RC Airplane Bomb Drop
thingiverse
A local RC airplane club member sought a method for attaching bombs to planes and dropping them on targets during competitions at their fun fly events. To create this mechanism, he used 3mm filament hinge pins with melted ends and a 4mm x 50mm bolt without its head as the metal pin. A spring provides cushioning when the servo motor engages the nose end against the bomb for holding purposes. The setup involves mounting a micro servo on the main bracket, attaching a servo rod from the arm to the nose-end bracket (using z bends), sliding the bomb onto the tail-end pin, and positioning it parallel to the main bracket while closing the nose-end bracket against the bomb. The bomb can then be released by opening the nose-end bracket, allowing it to drop via gravity and slide off the tail-end pin. This has brought enjoyment to the creator and his friends, hoping others will share in the fun as well.
