rBox - The Ultimate Reading Companion for Preschoolers Phonics teaching made easy with CVC, CCVC, CVCC, CVVC, and CVCe. Print Settings: Printer: Delta Printer Kit Resolution: 0.3 mm layer height (any resolution works) Infill: 15% with 2 wall thickness for strength Notes: Printing letter blocks is a breeze! You can print them in multiple colors using the pause command to change filament at layers or print them in one color and then paint them afterwards. To achieve multi-color prints, change the filament at layer height 0.6mm, which is after 2 layers for 0.3mm resolution. Printing two letter blocks each is a great idea for extras and for words that use double letters. Printing the cover (rBox_02.stl): The cover can be printed in single color, but to add a two-tone effect on the rBox logo, change the color at height 0.6mm. The cover may be stiff at first, so the tracks will need to wear off for smoother sliding. You can also lightly sand it or apply a small amount of baby powder to make it slide smoothly. Printing the letter slot (rBox_01.stl): The letter slot can be printed in single color, but you can change colors at desired height to add a two-tone effect. Printing the storage (rBox_03.stl or rBox_03a.stl): This can be done in one color or with a two-tone effect. I've included two files for this - one has cell dividers and the other doesn't, making it perfect for storing letter blocks neatly. Printing the lock (rBox_04.stl): Nothing fancy here! Project: rBox Project Name: rBox Overview & Background: As a parent to a toddler and a preschooler, I was on a mission to find ways to teach my kids to read. Thanks to the internet, I learned about CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) and its variations - CCVC, CVCC, CVVC, and CVCe. A friend teacher suggested using word cards in a sleeve, then sliding the sleeve to reveal the letters. I thought, "What if I could make something more durable than paper that we can take anywhere?" And thus, the rBox was born! Objective: rBox - The reading box for preschoolers. With phonics teaching of CVC, CCVC, CVCC, CVVC, and CVCe, educators/parents/teachers can make learning to read a fun experience for preschoolers. Since it's almost the same size as smartphones, learning to read can be anywhere! Audience: Preschoolers Subjects: Reading, Phonics, CVC, CVVC, CCVC, CVCC, CVCe Lesson/Activity: The internet provides teachers/parents with CVC, CCVC, CVVC, CVCC, and CVCe words that they can use to spell them out with the rBox. Using the cover, teachers/parents can slide it to reveal the letters as the child reads them. rBox can also be used to teach preschoolers to spell 4-letter words! Since rBox has its own lock and letter storage, reading can be anywhere - even during long drives in the car! References: The internet is full of references for CVC, CCVC, CVVC, CVCC, CVCe words that teachers and parents can use with rBox. These words should be actual English words, not just groups of letters!
