RBMK Graphite Block - 1/10 Scale

RBMK Graphite Block - 1/10 Scale

thingiverse

This is a highly detailed model of a graphite moderator from an RBMK reactor similar to the one that catastrophically failed at Chernobyl. The exact dimensions were carefully extracted from Wikipedia, which describes a cube with 250 mm sides and a 114 mm bore through which fuel and control rod channels pass. To accurately represent this design in three-dimensional form, I had to take some creative liberties with the mating stud at the top and the corresponding recess at the bottom, as specific dimensions for these components were unavailable. Instead, I relied on estimations derived from photographs found online. The scale of this model is 1/10th life size (25 mm cube, 11.4 mm bore), chosen to balance the desire for a large-scale representation with the limitations imposed by my print bed and the availability of filament.
