RBL PVC Pipe Mount
thingiverse
This is a remix of the Really Big Light rebar mount adapter. In the north, anything we pound in the ground will remain frozen in place until spring arrives. Wanting to avoid having rebar stick out of the ground for the first four months of the year, I decided to find a way to mount my RBLs so they can be removed after the holidays. The mount and base feature NPT threads for 1/2-inch PVC pipe. I bought three pieces of 1/2-inch x 24-inch PVC riser pipe, usually found in the lawn sprinkler section of any home improvement store ($1.73 each at Menard's). A full length piece was used for the vertical section and the other two were cut in half for the legs. With the base legs about 24 inches wide, it's very stable and the pipe threads fit nice and snug into the printed parts. The top of the bulb is approximately 38 inches high. I plan to run wires inside the pipes, with them coming out through the ends of the legs. 9/9 - On request, a version of the RBL mount with a slip fitting on top that fits a 1/2-inch PVC pipe (unthreaded) has been added. This can be used to attach an RBL adapter cap, such as https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2053307. To use this, you would need to modify the white bracket included inside the RBL. You'll also need to drill a hole in this upper pipe to route your wire down through the pipes and out the leg. Note - don't overtighten the legs into the base fitting; slightly snug should be fine. Tapered threads can put a lot of outward pressure on a fitting, causing it to split along one of its layers.
