Razor Planer for Balsa Wood
thingiverse
Building an RC airplane requires precision and attention to detail, especially when it comes to fine-tuning critical components like the plane's blades. After downloading a generic planer that looked promising, I realized I needed something more customizable. The Master Aircrew model is a great option, but buying one would add unnecessary expense. Instead, I decided to fabricate my own custom planer using readily available materials and tools. I started by designing a top-mounted blade holder with a hole for inserting the razor blade. This would allow me to easily adjust the depth of the blade without having to resort to special tools or blades. To secure the blade in place, I used rear screws that could be tightened to achieve the perfect fit. Using standard single-edge razor blades, I was able to create a planer that exceeded my expectations. With a little drilling and tapping, the holes were prepared for the screws, ensuring a smooth operation. The result is a custom-made planer that works flawlessly and meets all my requirements.
