The Rawlinson headstone stands tall at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse, Wisconsin, likely marking one or both graves of Joesph E and William H Rawlinson, brothers who made a bold move from Cheshire, England to start anew in La Crosse. These skilled craftsmen brought with them expertise in brick-laying and plastering, skills that would soon serve the community well as they took on various construction projects in their adopted hometown. It's possible that Joesph E and William H Rawlinson laid bricks for iconic structures like the La Crosse Opera House, Edwards Block, Levy’s Block, or even the flouring mill of Listman and Co., leaving a lasting legacy in the city they came to call home.
