Ravensburger Labyrinth Contest -- “Abstract theme” player pieces
myminifactory
My custom set of four "Abstract theme" player pieces for the Ravensburger Labyrinth Contest consists of a Yellow Pentagon, Green Hexagon, Red Heptagon, and Blue Octagon. Each player has a unique "Labyrinth" designed into its base. When you look at the base of any player piece while rotating it, you notice open and blocked paths through its intricate design. This effect is consistent across all four players - yet each player is distinct due to their tops having either 5, 6, 7, or 8 sides. The sides are twisted and tapered as they slope down towards the base, reflecting the twists in strategy that emerge during gameplay. The design is meant for each player piece to be printed in a different filament color to differentiate the four distinct color circles on the game playing board. If you use the same color filament for all pieces, however, the distinctive shape of the pentagon, hexagon, heptagon, or octagon design serves as a useful identifier between players. The most significant challenge I faced while creating these player pieces was fitting all the required features within the compact 1 cm base and 4 cm height limit. Each player piece takes approximately 25 minutes to print on my 3D printer, with no supports needed. My MakerBot Replicator Mini's software skillfully slices the design and adds a removable raft that can be easily taken off without any tools. If you want to create a larger trophy-sized player piece as a winner's prize, you can simply scale up your 3D print. The design was created using iPad Pro-based Shapr3D software.
