Raven Arms revolutionized the handgun market in 1970 with the introduction of the iconic Raven, followed closely by the P-25 and subsequent models over the next two decades, selling approximately 2 million units worldwide. The initial Raven design featured a prominent button sliding safety on its side, manufactured in Baldwin Park, California. The second iteration upgraded the safety to a smaller, more discreet sliding mechanism while retaining the coveted P-25 designation. The third variation brought significant improvements with redesigned slide serrations and proudly bore the MP-25 moniker. In contrast, the fourth and final version ditched the sliding safety altogether, opting for an innovative upward-moving disk safety, still branded as the MP-25. A devastating fire ravaged the Raven Arms factory in November 1991, prompting a change of hands to Phoenix Arms, which continued producing the MP-25 under the "Model Raven" label. The .25 ACP cartridge enables the creation of sleek and lightweight firearms, but its limited range and potency position it alongside the .22 LR rimfire cartridge at a substantially higher price point. Though the .22 LR may hold a slight edge in terms of power when fired from longer rifle barrels, some experts prefer the .25 ACP for personal defense handguns due to its centerfire design, which boasts inherent reliability over rimfire cartridges.
