Have fun with this shaker, and learn how a rattlesnake's rattle works by experimenting with it. Improve it if you like, play some music, or just get amazed by nature. Print Settings Printer: Prusa Mendel Hibryd Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 mm layers Infill: 100% or 25% Notes: 0.5 nozzle, 0.5 mm shell, fan cooling, 0.5% infill overlap The challenging thing is to print it in one setting using the longest side as the Z axis, which may present some bridging sections that might be tricky to tackle. I tried printing it with PLA and ABS. For my taste, it sounds better in PLA, but this could be due to the quality of the material or just personal preference. Find out which one sounds better for you by experimenting with wood-like materials, but I've never tried that one, so I'm unsure how it will sound. The real rattlesnake's rattle is brownish and transparent, resembling a nail-like or horn-like tissue, which could add a realistic touch if desired. Post-Printing Links might get stuck; simply apply some force to release them or use a sharp object to separate one link from another between the layers. Alternatively, pause the print before every link starts and apply stick glue to the part where the next link will begin printing. Then, apply water when finished, and links should separate easily. How I Designed This Discovering the amazing started with my fascination with the real rattlesnake's rattle that was given to me from a snake zoo. I enjoyed learning how it worked so much that I felt compelled to create one of my own. When I saw 3D printing, I thought: "Well, now you can make a rattlesnake's rattle like the real one without seams and in the way the snake grows it." The amazing thing is that, as far as I know, the rattlesnake is the only animal with a separated jointed device. It means the only one that has this kind of articulated device hanging without being stuck to the body but remains attached to the animal. I would like to make a more realistic one, but it's a very intricate design and I wanted to try it first in a geometrical shape before shaping it into more detail. The challenging thing is that the real one is very thin and has an internal structure; also, I don't have the real one anymore, so I have to rely on my memory or pictures.
