I designed a ratcheting spool and arm assembly for a project that allows a table to be raised or lowered using this paired with string and rollers. The mounts that hold the spool in place were cut from wood, but you could also 3D print them if desired. Supports are necessary on the spool and the arm during printing, but not on the other components. I printed all parts at a high fill density to ensure structural integrity since they support a heavy platform. A small hole is provided for attaching a string or similar to the pawl, making it easier to pull back when needed. This assembly was originally intended for a solar water heater project, which explains the embossing on the design. If you prefer an arm without this feature, just let me know.
