Rat Nose Cone

Rat Nose Cone

Used for administering anesthesia to rats during surgery or imaging in my laboratory. The geometry of several rat faces was mapped using size and location measurements, revealing an asymmetrical design that incorporates an internal cutout to direct the anesthesia directly to the rat's nose and mirror its facial structure. This cone is engineered to press snugly against the bridge of the nose, just below the eyes, preventing both optical and researcher exposure to the anesthesia. By directing air flow and maximizing it at the rat's nostrils, the effectiveness of the drug is significantly increased. In the second iteration, I made several improvements: - Enhanced the connection between the hose and its mate - Widen the nose opening for better airflow - Lengthened the cone and reduced its diameter to accommodate rats with smaller faces - Added eye cutouts to minimize optical exposure to the drug, particularly in rats with smaller faces - Lowered the cone to reduce strain on the rats' necks - Introduced a square base for added stability and as a reference point for the asymmetrical design
