This design excels at retaining regolith throughout transportation, ensuring the fastest and most thorough unloading possible, along with the highest fill ratio achievable. It also offers real-time customization based on lunar sediment conditions. Key specifications include a total scoop width that can be adjusted, a bucket drum mass of 5 kg, a diameter of 450 mm, and a length of 360 mm. The volume of regolith captured is approximately 40 liters. Crafted from aluminum with rubber seals for reduced friction and dust collection, the scoops' sliding motion is precisely controlled by motors located on either side of the drum. These motors are shielded from external elements by rubber partitions. The adjustable scoop size enables optimal performance in diverse lunar terrain and sediment compositions. As the drum fills, it naturally contracts due to increased weight and flow rate, ultimately reducing the space available for escape. Consequently, a consistent inward flow is maintained until near 100% capacity is reached. The interior of the drum remains completely empty, maximizing yield within its dimensions. During transportation, the closed shape minimizes regolith loss regardless of terrain angles or destination.
