RASSOR Bucket Drum Design - 2: Improvement of the internal deflectorThis system boasts two distinct bucket drums, guaranteeing continuous excavation work even if one is compromised; all damaged parts can be swiftly replaced thanks to MS screws securing every component (alternatively, they can also be welded together without using the screws). Each bucket drum's scoop measures 90mm wide and features a baffle that stores or pushes out regolith according to its rotation direction; to retain regolith inside during transportation to the base storage point, the bucket drums do not need to continue rotating throughout the entire operation. This results in lower battery consumption. The transmission shaft was replaced with a decagonal section (inscribed within a 30mm diameter) to transmit rotation to the bucket drums without adapters, saving system weight and allowing for bucket drum orientation at 30° intervals (beneficial in certain missions). The components can also assist robot traction. Titanium Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 was chosen as the material, and all parts are designed for 3D printing. Technical data for the project is listed below.Technical features:Maximum total scoop width at any given time: 90mmWeight of single bucket drum: 2.5kg (x2 = 5kg total)Maximum bucket drum diameter: 450mmMaximum length for single bucket drum: 180mm (x2 = 360mm total)Maximum volume for single bucket drum: 13Lt. (x2 = 26Lt. total)Minimum stowage volume for single bucket drum: 9.5Lt. (x2 = 19Lt. total)Fill ratio: Estimated 73% Kinematic motion was simulated using Rocky DEM, with the simulation set at a gravity attraction of 1,625 m/s² and a bucket drum rotation speed of 20 rpm. The filling process takes approximately 42 seconds (13 rounds).Note:Even if you observe a correct unloading phase for the system, regolith stops on an imaginary structure that I failed to notice initially. I apologize, but I'm redoing the simulation; it will be ready in 20 hours. This is my first time using Rocky DEM.Thank you.
