I wanted to attach my Raspberry Pi and Raspberry Pi Touchscreen to my Ormerod 2. I envisioned two main goals: controlling the printer with the touch screen, and having a camera watch the print so I could monitor it remotely. To achieve this, I designed little legs that screw into the touch screen and then onto the Z axis of the Ormerod via t-nuts. The 40mm versions are pictured; they work well, but the extruder stepper cable might get stuck on them during tall prints. To resolve this issue, I designed a 50mm long version to hold the screen further from the axis, which should prevent the problem. The camera used is an official Raspberry Pi camera. It allows me to remotely connect to it via https://elinux.org/RPi-Cam-Web-Interface. I utilized a 30 cm long cable from CPC to position the camera in a more useful spot, enabling me to monitor print progress through any web browser connected to the same local network. This way, I can run and save the print or remotely stop it using the Ormerod web server if needed. The screen is securely attached and doesn't seem to alter the angle of the z-axis. I consider this project a success.
