Raspberry Pi Music Player Case

Raspberry Pi Music Player Case

myminifactory

This is a case designed for use with Raspberry Pi 3 media players and music systems, also suitable for general-purpose applications such as building thin clients. It's engineered to work seamlessly with IQaudio PiDAC+, available at http://iqaudio.co.uk/audio/8-pi-dac-0712411999643.html - simply remove the small plastic ring on top of the cinch connectors to close the cover. This 5mm space would be wasted, in my opinion. Other soundcards may be installed if their dimensions and connector positions are nearly identical. To use the same parts, I've created a bill of materials, including article numbers from German electronic parts store "Conrad Electronik": https://www.dropbox.com/s/zka5diwjgptpeqg/BOM_Conrad_Electronic.pdf?dl=0 The USB connectors are standard panel-mounted USB connectors with male plugs. To redirect HDD activity to a front-mounted LED, you need to add a "Device Tree Overlay" - just Google what this is. It's pretty simple on RasPi 3: add the line "dtoverlay=pi3-act-led,gpio=xxx" to your "config.txt", replacing xxx with the pin the LED is connected to. To use the encoder for volume control, there's a simple piece of C code available from iqaudio.co.uk - just modify it slightly depending on your music player distribution or audio config in general (soundcard device name). Compile it and make it start on boot (check the PiDAC+ manual!). Happy printing!
