Raspberry PI Mini NAS
thingiverse
I want to create a sleek and cable-free Raspberry PI NAS with 2.5" HDD mounting and internal USB-to-SATA connectivity. Electrical expertise is necessary to desolder and cut the Raspberry PI's USB connector, then solder a USB-to-SATA adapter directly onto it. A custom DC-jack was used for this project because I wanted to be able to plug in both Ethernet and power from one side of the case. With the Fan Edition (w_fan), I designed a slightly larger version of the case for two main reasons: to fit HDDs taller than 10mm, and to accommodate a 40mm fan. The Raspberry PI is not easily placed inside the case due to its audio jack, but once it's in place, it securely holds itself without needing screws. To assemble this project, start by desoldering the right USB mount on the Raspberry PI. Then, solder a low-cost off-the-shelf USB-to-SATA adapter directly onto that mount.
