Raspberry Pi CAM Mount Remix - LED Ring
prusaprinters

This is a remix of the pi cam front cover from thing:2842300, heavily inspired by user Drse's thing:4226397 (check out that thing for additional details regarding the LED ring and octopi integration!).

I found that at max brightness, this LED ring consumes ~334mA@5V, though this was using a USB-powered Arduino as a power supply so that may have been a limiting factor. Either way, double check you have a proper power source or sufficient power supply headroom from your Pi (depending on whatever else is connected to it).

The wires in the pictures are stranded 22 AWG (amazon), and connector is JST-XHP 2.54mm (amazon).

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Creality

Printer:

Ender 3 Pro

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

20%

Filament: Overture PETG Black

Notes:

Printed in PETG per Drse's recommendation, especially since this LED ring gets hot at max brightness. Alternatively, you can drive it at 50% brightness or lower; it only gets warm at this level and I'm guessing should be fine for PLA (though I did not try!).
Unfortunately, supports are required, but should separate cleanly if the z gap is decently tuned. The downside is that the entire top part is printed on top of supports, so expect some under extrusion due to a bit of sagging (see pics). Could be compensated using higher flow/extrusion multiplier for top layers, but I didn't bother since this is purely a functional print.
How I Designed This

Using Fusion 360. I took the original camera front cover and slapped a rough copy of Drse's LED ring holder on top of it. I cut off the parts of the ring holder that were larger than the camera cover to avoid additional supports around the cover. I find it still holds the LED ring very firmly.

Category: 3D Printer Accessories
