Raspberry Pi and Camera Mount for Nova Labs Prusa i3
thingiverse
Combination webcam and Raspberry Pi mount for my Nova Labs Prusa i3 printer. This unique design is a result of combining three separate projects into one functional whole. To ensure the project's success, I have included all relevant files from each component. The mounting process requires just three existing frame screws and an additional hole drilled in the middle-front for a 6/32 screw. The design was originally created with a BG8 printer in mind but should also work on other BG6 through BGX printers. However, I am unsure about the front portion of the frame's redesign between versions. To secure the Raspberry Pi to the platform, I used M3x20 cap head machine screws, which worked surprisingly well despite not being the ideal application. A 12in ribbon cable was necessary for the Raspicam, as the standard 6" cable provided was too tight of a fit. The original design called for a cut-down arrow shaft, but I happened to have an M8 threaded rod that fitted perfectly in its place. The LEDs used are 12-volt car-style bulbs and were wired in series due to my 24V power supply. This setup has been functioning flawlessly for almost a year. In addition to the camera mount, I also utilize a clip-on fisheye lens designed for phones to expand my field of view. The exact lens used is available here, but any similar style should work. The entire assembly was printed in Inland PETG, with mostly blue and a little white used for the Raspberry Pi cover. Edit 2017-07-29: I corrected the title to accurately reflect this project's purpose after realizing it was initially mislabeled as my spool holder design. This updated title now correctly identifies this webcam and Raspberry Pi mount for my Nova Labs Prusa i3 printer, which continues to operate smoothly.
