Raspberry Pi 3 LCD 3.5" TFT Screen Case - vented, lower, filet options
thingiverse
I built a volumio-powered audio-book player for my son and wanted a nice case for it. I just don't like the look of the ones where you slide it into place and this one looked good. The original design is brilliantly engineered, but I didn't want the pen holder and I wanted extra venting because Raspberry Pi 3's get HOT. After printing my initial version, I realised it needed to be 2.7mm lower to match my cheap 3.5" TFT screen and also I wanted the edges to be rounder! You can see my screen in the make images, but it's likely others are the same thickness/height. I didn't like the way the screen wobbled, so I made a nicely fitting mount for the corner that sits on top of the micro-USB and HDMI ports and another to go on top of the ethernet port. For the ethernet support piece I just double-sided taped it onto the Pi, but for the HDMI support, you need to carefully place it on top of the Pi with double-sided tape on top of it and then push the screen down on top of it so it sticks to the screen. I also made some cute little feet for it to sit on to allow air in through the bottom vents that you can just attach using double-sided tape. I've put all the different combinations of lower/higher, filleted, vented/plain here to download including just the original with the holes filled in and an internal fillet for strength. I've included the original top file, but the only change was to change it to the correct bed orientation. You WILL need supports for the USB ports etc, I just told it to use for an overhang of +45 and it worked. It's a pain to get the Pi inside it if you don't trim off enough of the headphone port hole to make it fit. You don't need supports for any of the other parts. My son loves spider-man, so that's the reason for the garish colour-scheme! I've put loads of photos in my make, so please check it out.
