Raspberry Pi 3 B/B+ Media case
thingiverse
I was searching for a case that could serve as a suitable media player to replace my old boxee box (RIP) but couldn't find what I wanted, so I decided to create one myself. This project comes with several options: 1. The bottom part of the case comes with either a bare RPi mount or attachment brackets for the boxee box remote/wlan receiver. Both versions have a slot in the back for the memory card lid, allowing users to remove it if needed. The Pi itself is clamped together between the top and bottom case. 2. The top part of the case comes in three different versions: - Plain, with no extra features. - With a hole for a 40mm fan. - With a hole for a 40mm fan plus a power button. To assemble the case, users simply need to select their preferred top and bottom parts, print them along with the memory card lid (and the button if they chose that option). Next, they put the Pi in the bottom part, place the top on, and secure it with four M3x8 screws. If a power button is desired, a standard momentary keyboard switch is required. This needs to be glued into the mount, followed by sliding in the button and securing it using two positioning "pins". The pins can then be heat-glued or adhered to the button for added stability. For an extra polished look, users can print the power button with a transparent bottom and add lighting within the case. I've successfully used this setup with Kodi (OSMC) and dtoverlay=gpio-shutdown for the button, along with a non-ideal 12V fan running on 5V. I highly recommend incorporating a fan to prevent overheating issues.
