A velociraptor, often misconceived in popular culture as being larger and more intelligent than its true size and capability, was a small, swift, and agile theropod dinosaur that lived during the late Cretaceous period. Its name translates to "swift seizer" in Latin. Despite common portrayals, it is now believed that velociraptors were no larger than a turkey and likely had feathers.
