Raptor Jesus
thingiverse
Whoa, this project took me way longer than I thought it would!\nI thought all I had to do was slap a raptor head onto a human body, throw some clothes on top, and hit print.\nBut nope, I ended up making heavy changes to the head just to get it to fit my needs. In fact, I changed it so much that not a single original vertex remains.\nThe robes and clothes were a breeze to make, but creating a watertight solid from a single side geometry that folds in on itself eight times? That was pure torture!\nI learned two valuable tips that could save you a ton of work. First, Microsoft 3D Builder is your new best friend. This software can take even the most messed up, clipped, and overlapping geometry and turn it into a watertight solid.\nSecond, if all else fails, you can try creating a geometry from photogrammetry. Just slap a crazy, flat texture on your model (think 3D fractals with bold colors), animate a camera around it, render 1,000 frames, and then use those frames to reconstruct the geometry. It's not perfect, but it gives you a solid foundation to work with in Microsoft 3D Builder.\nYou can then fill in all the creases and details using that software. The head I created was inspired by Granat's "Jurassic Park Velociraptor statue," which he graciously allowed me to use as reference.\nI'll be adding a reference picture showing the best orientation for printing each part.
